Big Apple Recreational Sports Community Pledge

Big Apple Rec Sports (BARS) has instituted numerous health and safety measures to ensure that potential risks to league members are minimized as much as possible during their time spent within league functions. It is equally important that members uphold certain precautions while participating. Prior to our return, we ask that you please acknowledge your role and responsibility as a league participant in protecting our community against the risk of COVID-19 by completing the following Community Pledge.

As a member of the BARS community, I pledge my commitment to the following:

  • Adhering to federal, state and local health orders and recommendations - including those issued by the CDC and NYS DOH - regarding travel, mask-wearing, social distancing and any other measures set forth to reduce the spread of COVID-19.

  • Completing a health screening through the BARS website prior to each time of game play. I understand that successful completion of this screening is required in order to play.

  • Wearing of an approved face mask by everyone at all times, with the exception of socially-distanced water bottle breaks.

  • Staying home if sick, including displaying any symptoms of COVID-19 such as a temperature of 100ºF or more, headache, cough or loss of smell or taste. In the case of illness, I commit to following the guidelines set forth including the requirement of an appropriately licensed medical professional’s diagnosis, a negative COVID-19 test result and/or a period of at-home quarantine prior to returning to league functions.

  • Staying home if exposed to COVID-19, in or outside of league functions. I understand that any league member who has been exposed to COVID-19 will be required to remain at home and not participate in playing.

  • Refrain from attending large gatherings outside of league functions to reduce widespread exposure, either indoor or outdoor. If attending a small gathering, participants will follow the recommendations of the CDC and Department of Health.

  • Avoiding unnecessary travel. I understand that should I choose to travel, I must follow all of NY State’s quarantine guidelines and requirements.

  • Practicing regular handwashing and proper respiratory hygiene.

I recognize that BARS may:

  • Send a league member home who is refusing to follow health guidelines.

  • Cancel league events, activities, and/or games.

  • Change timing and procedures of events.

  • Inquire about activities that concern the league or community’s safety and violate the community pledge.

  • Require COVID-19 testing and negative results of any player prior to returning to events, if deemed necessary.
