Big Apple Rec Sports Community,

The last 72 hours have proven to be a particularly challenging time; members of our LGBTQIA+ Community are experiencing fear, anxiety, and uncertainty following the results of the election.

Our commitment to the BARS community remains as strong as ever. While we are brought together by our common interest in the sports we play, the core purpose of BARS is to create a safe space for support and inclusion among our players and for the broader LGBTQIA+ Community. We stand firm in that goal, especially to our fast-growing WTNB+ community and all others who have historically been the most marginalized by fear and discrimination.

In the times to come, we must remember to hold our chosen family and community close and continue to build on the diversity and strength we have established. We must push past our fears and promote resiliency, love, and support within our spaces, and foster a sense of camaraderie as we enter these challenging times once again.

Please take care of yourselves to the best of your ability and do not hesitate to seek support. The leadership team is here for you whenever and however you need us to be. Use the spaces we have created as a comfortable outlet to enjoy your leisure time, a space to regain the strength and support needed to fight for your dignity, or both, and remember that you are not alone. We will always be stronger together, and we will continue to promote love, equity, and unity as the BARS community continues to grow.
