BARS’ Members Raise Over $12k for HIV & AIDS
On Sunday, May 18, Big Apple Recreational Sports (BARS) proudly participated in the 40th Annual AIDS Walk New York, held in Central Park. This iconic event, one of the largest and longest-running HIV/AIDS fundraising walks in the nation, benefits GMHC (Gay Men’s Health Crisis) and a network of Community Partnership Program beneficiaries, including numerous HIV/AIDS service, social justice, and public health organizations across the tri-state area.
With over 80 members showing up in solidarity, BARS raised an impressive $12,844 in support of GMHC’s mission to provide free HIV testing, treatment, and care services—particularly for low-income New Yorkers impacted by HIV/AIDS. The turnout marked one of BARS’ strongest showings yet, demonstrating the organization’s continued commitment to community, equity, and advocacy.
A special shoutout goes to our top five fundraisers, each of whom raised over $1,000:
• AJ Sloan
• Peeta Martinez
• David Guida
• Matthew Huber
• Richard Byers
“We couldn’t be more proud of our members who donated, fundraised, and walked for a cause so close to our hearts,” said Charles Romaine, BARS’ Director of Philanthropy. “Their compassion, energy, and drive continue to define what it means to be part of this community.”
